Dust Collection for Sandblasting & Polishing Machines
Sandblasting and polishing create very different dust loads, but both benefit from capturing particulate before it spreads through the workshop. A combined dust collection support system should be designed around the actual machine enclosure, worktable, material and operating schedule.
Sandblasting Applications
Abrasive blasting can generate high concentrations of dust and spent media. The extraction system may need pre-separation or wear-resistant components before the air reaches the main filter.
Polishing and Grinding Applications
Polishing and grinding usually require local capture near the wheel, table or enclosure. Hood position is critical: moving the pickup point too far from the source can require much more airflow and still provide poor capture.
Shared Collector or Separate Systems?
Processes can share a collector only when the dust characteristics, airflow requirements and safety considerations are compatible. Combining incompatible dust streams can create maintenance or safety problems, so the materials should be reviewed before a shared network is proposed.
Engineering Inputs
- machine type and enclosure dimensions;
- dust or abrasive material;
- number of machines and simultaneous operation;
- capture openings or hood dimensions;
- duct route and available collector location;
- daily operating hours;
- any combustible, reactive or hazardous dust information.
Collector Options
For localized grinding, an integrated grinding dust collector can be suitable. Larger multi-station installations may use a central cartridge dust collector.
