Central Cartridge Dust Collector for Multi-Station Extraction
A central cartridge dust collector connects multiple fixed extraction points to one filtration system. It is used when several welding stations, laser-cutting machines, grinding tables or other dust-generating processes need coordinated extraction through a shared duct network.
The collector itself is only one part of the system. Capture hoods, branch ducts, dampers, fan selection and filter loading all determine whether the installation maintains the required airflow at each workstation.

How the Central System Works
Contaminated air is captured at each process point and transported through branch ducts to the main collector. The centrifugal fan creates the negative pressure required to overcome resistance from hoods, ductwork, fittings and filter cartridges.
Particles accumulate on the cartridge filter surface while cleaned air passes through the media. Automatic pulse cleaning periodically removes the dust cake, allowing it to fall into the hopper for collection and disposal.
Any decision to return filtered air indoors should be based on the contaminant, validated filtration performance and applicable local ventilation and occupational-hygiene requirements. It should not be assumed to be suitable for every process.
Why Central Systems Need Engineering
Simultaneous Operating Points
The system should be sized for the number of extraction points operating at the same time, not simply the total number connected to the network.
Duct Velocity
Transport velocity must be high enough to prevent the collected material from settling in the ductwork. The required value depends on particle size, density and dust characteristics.
Total Static Pressure
Fan capacity must be evaluated at the calculated system resistance. Free-air fan volume is not the same as delivered airflow after hoods, ducts and filters are connected.
Filter Area and Dust Loading
The number and size of filter cartridges should match the expected airflow and dust load. Higher dust loading may require more filtration area or a pre-separation stage.

Optional Project Configurations
Depending on the process and risk assessment, project options may include:
- variable-frequency fan control;
- cyclone or other pre-separation;
- spark-control measures;
- dust-discharge equipment;
- monitoring of filter differential pressure;
- project-specific combustible-dust protection where required.
Explosion protection is not a generic accessory selection. Combustible-dust applications should be reviewed as a complete system using the applicable regulations and site risk assessment.

Central vs Mobile Dust Collection
A central collector is normally appropriate for permanent multi-station extraction. For isolated or changing welding positions, a mobile welding fume extractor may be simpler.
