Laser Cutting Dust Collector & Welding Fume Extraction

Industrial dust collector for laser cutting and welding fume extraction

Laser Cutting Dust Collector & Welding Fume Extraction

Laser cutting, plasma cutting and welding generate fine metal fume and particulate that can spread quickly if it is not captured at the source. The Superman HY series is a cartridge dust collector designed for dry industrial fume and dust extraction in metal-fabrication applications.

Correct performance depends on more than the collector model. Cutting-table zoning, hood design, airflow, duct resistance, filter loading and pulse-cleaning conditions should be considered together.

Applications

  • laser cutting machines;
  • plasma cutting tables;
  • laser tube cutting;
  • welding stations;
  • CNC metalworking;
  • grinding and polishing areas where the dust is suitable for dry cartridge collection.

How Laser-Cutting Dust Extraction Works

During cutting, fume is generated below and around the cutting zone. A zoned extraction table or machine enclosure directs the contaminated air toward the duct connection. The fan then pulls the air through the duct network and into the cartridge collector.

Fine particulate accumulates on the pleated filter surface. An automatic reverse-pulse system uses dry compressed air to clean the cartridges, allowing dust to fall into the collection area.

Important Selection Factors

Cutting Table Size and Zoning

A large laser bed does not necessarily require the whole table to be extracted at maximum airflow at the same time. Zoned extraction can concentrate airflow near the active cutting area when the machine design supports it.

Material and Cutting Power

Fume generation varies with material, thickness, cutting power and assist-gas conditions. These factors affect both dust load and filter selection.

Airflow and Static Pressure

The fan must deliver the required extraction airflow after losses through the table, ductwork, elbows, dampers and filters are included.

Filter Media

Filter media should be selected according to the actual particulate, temperature and process conditions. A nominal micron rating should not be treated as a complete workplace-exposure or emission guarantee.

Pulse-Cleaning Air

Pulse cleaning requires a stable supply of clean, dry compressed air. Wet or oily pulse air can reduce cleaning effectiveness and shorten cartridge life.

HY Series Catalog Range

The current Superman dust-collection catalog lists the HY series from HY-300 through HY-2200. The values below are catalog references; final model selection should be confirmed using the actual cutting machine, extraction zoning and total system resistance.

Model Motor Power Max Airflow Filter Cartridges Filtration Area Inlet Diameter
HY-300 3 kW 2,900 m³/h 2 46 m² 250 mm
HY-550 5.5 kW 4,500 m³/h 4 92 m² 250 mm
HY-750 7.5 kW 7,200 m³/h 6 138 m² 300 mm
HY-1100 11 kW 10,000 m³/h 8 184 m² 300 mm
HY-1500 15 kW 12,000 m³/h 12 276 m² 300 mm
HY-1850 18.5 kW 16,000 m³/h 18 414 m² 550 mm
HY-2200 22 kW 20,000 m³/h 24 552 m² 600 mm

The current catalog uses nano flame-retardant composite-fiber cartridges and lists a nominal particle range of 0.3–3.0 μm. This should be treated as product/filter information, not as a workplace exposure or emissions-compliance guarantee.

Single-Machine vs Centralized Extraction

A dedicated collector works well when one cutting machine has a defined airflow requirement. If several machines or workstations need extraction simultaneously, a central cartridge dust collector may provide a more coordinated system.

Safety Considerations

Metal dust characteristics vary widely. Some dusts may be combustible or reactive, and hot particles can create ignition hazards. The dust material, cutting process, collector location and required protection measures should be reviewed before finalizing the system.

Maintenance

  • monitor filter differential pressure;
  • check pulse-cleaning pressure and valve operation;
  • inspect cutting-table extraction zones and ducts;
  • remove collected dust before the bin or hopper overfills;
  • inspect fan condition and abnormal vibration;
  • replace filter cartridges according to actual loading and condition.
